Laminar ring application

TFC has accelerated the order cycle for its Laminar Sealing Rings

Manufactured by Smalley, the Laminar Sealing Rings can now be delivered to TFC customers quicker than ever, having previously had a longer lead time.

Due to new manufacturing processes, TFC is able to deliver standard Laminar Sealing Rings within a four week cycle, and bespoke designs within eight weeks.

The Laminar Sealing Ring – pivotal within a wide scope of industries – brings a variety of advantages when compared to common O-rings and conventional rubber seals. A labyrinth seal consisting of multiple rings in a groove, the ring’s arrangement and specific orientation is dictated by the application and the environment’s severity.

As a result, the Laminar Sealing Ring is ideal for sealing components in assemblies from contamination. Produced from metal, it can also withstand high temperatures, corrosive environments and other extreme conditions. With no friction with other rotating components, the Laminar Sealing ring performs well in high speed applications, and also occupies small radial and axial space.

TFC – the leading European supplier of Smalley Laminar Sealing Rings – can design the rings to be coiled to exact specification in any diameter between 5mm and 2300mm, with any number of turns. Even after the initial prototype has been produced, or in mid-stream production, TFC’s edge-winding process allows the design to be modified.

Brian Goode, Technical Director at TFC, says: “At TFC we have the capability to solve most retention, sealing and pre-load problems, no matter how unusual the application, dimensions or materials. Now that we have adopted a new manufacturing process with the Laminar Sealing Rings, our customers get the results they desire from both standard and bespoke designs faster than ever.”
